A Mrs. Doubtfire musical is in the works

The flow of '90s movies to The Great White Way just will not stop.
In yet another blow to originality, a swath of reputable creatives are turning Mrs. Doubtfire into a musical. The show has been in development since 2015, and the hope is that it lands on Broadway, Playbill reports.
The show will center around the divorced dad who masquerades as a British nanny to spend more time with his kids, a character defined by Robin Williams in the 1993 film. Yet regardless of the sanctity of Williams' role, a handful of Tony nominees and winners are working to set it to music.

Leading the charge is four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks, who will direct, Entertainment Weekly says. Something Rotten! creators John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick will write the book, and Karey will join his brother Wayne Kirkpatrick for music and lyrics. That's a total upheaval from the original creative team first slated to create the show in 2015; Alan Menken, lyricist of dozens of Disney features, and Harvey Fierstein, who was in the original film, were spearheading that campaign.
