One of the few vulnerable Democratic governors in the 2018 election was Oregon's Kate Brown, but she beat Republican state Rep. Knute Buehler, with Oregon's large voter turnout and Democratic lean overcoming Brown's high negative approval ratings. It was the most expensive gubernatorial race in Oregon history, with more than $36 million spent, The Oregonian reports. Brown, 58, took over after former Gov. John Kitzhaber (D) resigned, but this is her first election to a full four-year term. She can't seek re-election, however, until 2026 due to an Oregon law that no governor can serve more than eight years in any 12-year period.
