Parts of Alaska received a tsunami warning Friday after a powerful earthquake hit the region.
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck about eight miles north of Anchorage, the state's largest city, at about 8:30 a.m. local time, NBC News reports. A tsunami warning was subsequently issued for Cook Inlet and South Kenai Peninsula as videos of the aftermath began to spread on Twitter. The warning was lifted shortly after it was issued, reports The Associated Press.
One picture of a destroyed newsroom in Anchorage quickly attracted attention, and CNN's Brian Stelter reports that all of Anchorage's local TV stations were knocked off the air. Other videos posted to Twitter showed roads split open, and the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport told drivers to "use EXTREME Caution" as "reports of road damage have been confirmed."
