The man who threw shoes at George W. Bush is back, and he's got a 2020 endorsement
Remember Muntadher al-Zaidi? No? Perhaps this clip of him throwing shoes at former President George W. Bush will ring a bell.
Anyhow, al-Zaidi, an Iraqi broadcast journalist, has decided to dip his toes back into American politics. He's endorsing former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel for the 2020 election, choosing the Democrat for his "strong anti-war stance," per a Friday press release.
Al-Zaidi launched his podi-attack at Bush's last Baghdad press conference before he left office, shouting that it was a "farewell kiss" from the Iraqi people. He and his shoes quickly became cult heroes, though al-Zaidi rejected that term in an op-ed following his release. Gravel could also be called the cult favorite of the 2020 race, seeing as a literal bunch of teenagers are running his campaign, and that he launched it not to win but to simply talk about ending war in all its forms.
