Antonio Brown's antics might cost him $30 million

Following a preseason that has featured a pair of mysteriously frozen feet, a bizarre war over helmets, and very little football, Oakland Raiders receiver Antonio Brown will now be suspended by the team for an altercation with General Manager Mike Mayock, ESPN reported Thursday.
The suspension, the length of which has not yet been revealed, could allow the Raiders to void $30.125 million guaranteed in Brown's contract — and move on from a superstar who has been a monumental distraction since arriving from the Pittsburgh Steelers in March.
The dispute between Brown and Mayock stemmed from thousands of dollars in fines the team levied against the receiver for missing practices while he battled the NFL over its new helmets. As The Ringer reports, Brown, angered by the penalties, "threatened to hit Mayock in the face, punted a football, and said, 'Fine me for that.'" This almost certainly qualifies as "conduct detrimental to the club," language in his contract which could allow the Raiders to cut ties with Brown while potentially paying him nothing. Brown, for his part, must be wistfully recalling a time when his biggest problems were a newfangled helmet and a case of frostbitten toes. Read more about the reported suspension at ESPN.
