Republicans didn't care when Trump didn't testify for Mueller. They're still insisting the Ukraine whistleblower appears.

Congressional Republicans yet again seem to be holding President Trump to a different standard than pretty much anyone else. They're currently insisting the Ukraine whistleblower testify in person for Congress, but had no problem when Trump refused to do the same for former Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

In September, the whistleblower raised concerns about Trump's call with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and how Trump seemingly said he'd withhold aid from the country unless it investigated the Bidens. That sparked an impeachment inquiry into Trump, where the whistleblower is expected to testify in some capacity.

The whistleblower's attorney has said the whistleblower will provide written answers to the House committees' questions, but some Republicans aren't okay with that. Oversight Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said "part of determining someone's motivation, credibility, potential bias is being able to see them, look them in the eye, see how they react to me asking them questions." House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) meanwhile said an in-person testimony would allow for "cross-examination."

Flash back a few years, and it's clear that Mueller's team never had the chance to look Trump in the eye either. Trump was never pushed to testify in person for the special counsel's team, and neither was Donald Trump Jr. nor former White House Counsel Don McGahn. Trump provided limited written answers for Mueller's report.
