Frozen 2 sets new Thanksgiving weekend record
Frozen 2 lit up Thanksgiving, pulling in $123.7 million domestically over the five-day holiday weekend for a new record, beating the previous Thanksgiving weekend record of $109 million set in 2013 by another sequel, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In the 12 days since it opened, Frozen 2 has raked in $738.6 globally, putting it on a likely path to become the sixth Disney movie this year to earn $1 billion at the box office. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will likely become Disney's seventh $1 billion film this year when it is released later this month. With hits like Avengers: Endgame, The Lion King, and Toy Story 4, Disney set a new annual record for highest-grossing studio in history back in July.
Knives Out, a whodunit starring Daniel Craig and Chris Evans, earned $41.7 million domestically in its debut over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, and Queen & Slim, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith, brought in $15.8 million domestically over the five-day weekend, putting the romantic drama in fifth place. In slots 3 and 4 were Ford v Ferrari and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, respectively. Combined, North American moviegoers spent $263 million at the box office over the Thanksgiving weekend, just short of 2018's record $315 million haul.
