Elizabeth Warren sarcastically congratulates Google founder for stepping down
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) offered congratulations Wednesday to Google co-founder Larry Page, who announced he's stepping down from leading the search engine's parent company Alphabet on Tuesday — but there was a catch.
Warren, who wants to break up the giants of the Silicon Valley tech industry, including Google, said that Page — who will reportedly remain actively involved with Google and Alphabet as a board member and shareholder — is still expected to be held accountable for the company's actions, including testifying before Congress over things like data privacy and regulation. In other words, Warren seems to be saying, you can't take the easy way out.
Page's co-founder, Sergey Brin, who is making the same move as Page, wasn't mentioned in Warren's tweet, but the safe money says she probably doesn't think he should be let off the hook, either.
