Three-time grand slam winner Andy Murray has confirmed on social media that he had hip resurfacing surgery yesterday in London.
Murray lost against Roberto Bautista Agut in Melbourne and following the first-round defeat he said that if he was to have surgery there was “no guarantee” he would be able to return to professional tennis.

On 14 January he said: “Maybe I’ll see you again. I’ll do everything possible to try. If I want to go again, I’ll need to have a big operation, which there’s no guarantee I’ll be able to come back from, but I’ll give it my best shot.”
After his operation Murray posted a picture from his hospital bed of his new metal hip. He said today on Instagram that he was feeling “a bit battered and bruised” but hopes this “will be the end” of his hip pain.
