Iconic folk singer Joni Mitchell is reportedly unresponsive and in a coma, and a close friend has filed documents to obtain conservatorship over her, TMZ reports. Mitchell has been hospitalized since March 31, when she was found unresponsive in her Los Angeles home due to an unidentified medical issue, though her team told fans in early April that her condition was improving and she was "resting comfortably."

Though no medical explanation for her hospitalization or reported coma has been given, Mitchell has repeatedly said that her health is deteriorating. Years of smoking cigarettes took a toll on the voice that made her famous, and she has also claimed to suffer from Morgellons disease, a controversial and unexplained skin disorder.
