Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders announced he will support Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison for chairman of the Democratic National Committee, The Associated Press reports. Ellison made history in 2006 when he became the first Muslim elected to Congress; he won his re-election race earlier this week. Additionally, Ellison was an early and outspoken supporter of Sanders and the two see eye-to-eye about such issues as $15 minimum wage and police accountability.

Sanders has faced his share of struggles with the DNC, which allegedly favored Hillary Clinton during the Democratic primaries despite claiming to be neutral.
