Queensland police 'deploy Hoverboard Unit to crash'
On Back to the Future Day, Australian police claim they are investigating a 'flux capacitor'
Officers from Queensland police's "Hoverboard Unit" were sent out to deal with a crashed silver sedan containing a "flux capacitor", the force announced today.
On its official online news feed, Queensland police posted a picture of three officers from its Mount Isa district standing on what it claimed were hoverboards.
The scenario was curiously similar to the plot line of Back to the Future II and happens to come as the world celebrates Back to the Future Day.

Today's date, 21 October 2015, marks the day teenage time traveller Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) and Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) landed in the future in the 1980s adventure film.
"A silver sedan had crashed into a power pole near the cinema. When questioned what speed he was doing, the driver stated that he was doing 88 miles per hour," said the spoof police statement.
"A 17-year-old man was charged and was in possession of a licence which expired over 30 years ago. Investigations into the vehicle, and what a flux capacitor is, are ongoing."
In the 1989 film, Doc's "flux capacitor" is a key component of his DeLorean time machine (a silver sedan) that enables him to travel in time.
Queensland Police made several other references to the movie in its statement, claiming that the driver "got out of the car and asked for a Pepsi" and wanted to know when the cinema would be playing "Jaws 19".
Mount Isa Mayor Tony McGrady was also quoted as saying that that a power outage had caused damage to the town clock.
Queensland Police Media is "famed for its light-hearted social media posts", says the BBC. It has previously warned residents about wet roads – caused by the tears of Top Gear fans after its cancellation – and also cautioned drivers not to "go ape" after a lorry carrying bananas crashed.
