Food Photographer of the Year: The best snaps

Mark Benham becomes second British winner in five years with joyful image of a baker at work

A joyful shot of a baker making bread has taken the crown at the Food Photographer of the Year 2016 awards.

More than 7,000 images and films from 60 countries were entered this year, bringing the total number of images submitted since the first awards to 30,000.

"As ever, it was a phenomenally high standard, making the judges' decision incredibly tough," said Andy Macdonald, the managing director of sponsors Pink Lady. "We are delighted to present the trophy and prize to Mark for this wonderful photograph."

Macdonald added that Benham was the second British winner in five years, reflecting the "truly international" nature of the awards.

Judges this year included David Loftus, a photographer for Jamie Oliver, and Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone.
