Watch this space: Tudor’s Heritage Black Bay Chrono
The famous line from the renowned watchmaker launches its first in-house manufacture chronograph derived from the Breitling 01
While brands often lean on the resources of other watchmakers to create their timepieces, few are as candid about it as Tudor. This year sees the result of a reciprocal agreement with Breitling that has allowed it to build on its own in-house expertise to deliver one of the most affordable high-spec chronographs on the market, while Breitling has used the COSC-certified Tudor calibre MT5612 as the basis for its redesigned Superocean Heritage line.
The Heritage Black Bay Chrono is the first Tudor design to host this new movement, the calibre MT5813. Taking the Breitling 01 as a starting point, it has been modified with the addition of a Tudor regulator and the brand's trademark finishing. It marks the addition of a chronograph to its popular Black Bay line of diving watches, while this heritage edition retains many of the hallmarks of the original models.
These are seen across the domed dial and the prominent winding crown – derived from the reference 7924 from 1958, the first Tudor timepiece waterproof to 200 metres – in addition to the trademark snowflake hands, a nod to the watches created for the French Navy in the 1970s. The handsome and rugged watch comes with a satin-brushed steel bracelet as well as a choice of leather or fabric strap. The latter is a denim-style design that is one of the signatures of the Heritage collection, woven on 19th-century jacquard looms by a 150-year-old family-run firm in St Etienne.
