Mercedes unveils revamped S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet
A racing-inspired grille and new V8 engine feature on the updated flagship
Mercedes has unveiled a revamped versions of its flagship S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet, featuring a host of styling tweaks and a new V8 engine option.
On regular Coupe and drop-top Cabriolet models, says Auto Express, Mercedes has added OLED (organic light emitting diode) tail lights and “enlarged” air intakes on the front bumper. There’s also a “chrome-plated front splitter” and two extra wheel options.
High-performance S63 and S65 AMG models get a new grille design with vertical struts similar to the company’s 1952 300 SL racing car, says Top Gear.

On S63 and S500 models, the German car giant has also swapped the ageing 5.5-litre V8 for a 4.0-litre twin-turbo version, the website says. This engine comes with cylinder-deactivation technology, which shuts down parts of the motor when cruising in order to save fuel.
Inside, reports Autocar, the refreshed flagship receives an updated 12.3ins touchscreen infotainment systems and three new interior trim levels.
Top-of-the-range models are fitted with “revised driver assistance systems”, says the magazine, which includes the “Active Steering Assist” from the saloon variant.
Prices for the refreshed S-Class have yet to be announced, but Carbuyer says the existing Coupe “starts at a little over £100,000”, while Cabriolet models enter at around £113,000. Current AMG versions start at £128,000 for the S63, with V12-engined S65 models at about £186,000.
More details are expected when both regular and AMG variants make their public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which runs from 14 to 24 September.
