Recharged: all-electric Fisker EMotion finally revealed

New car has battery range of more than 400 miles

Danish vehicle designer Henrik Fisker has given fans glimpses of the successor to his beautiful but flawed plug-in hybrid Karma saloon over the past year.

Now, the covers have finally come off Fisker’s second production car, the EMotion, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Unlike 2012’s Karma - which was powered by a petrol engine and electric motors in the form of a plug-in hybrid - the EMotion features an all-electric powertrain that offers a battery range of more than 400 miles on a single charge.

The company is also developing solid-state battery architecture that can reportedly store two-and-a-half times as much energy as the lithium-ion batteries found in the majority of electric cars.

And according to Fisker, charging times for the EMotion are as low as just one minute - significantly faster than the hour it takes to charge a conventional EV.

The EMotion’s styling is both compact and sporty, with a ducktail-style boot lid and wide wheel arches similar to the new Aston Martin Vantage sports car, also designed by Fisker.

Inside, the electric saloon features leather seats and leather details on the centre console and dashboard.

It’s packed with technology, including a completely digital centre console and instrument cluster. There is also the option of a 27in curved screen for rear-seat passengers, reports Top Gear.

Fans will have to wait a little longer before they can order an EMotion. Auto Express says the EV is due to reach production in 2020.

The car is expected to cost $129,000 (£95,000), putting it in direct completion with the all-electric Tesla Model S saloon.
