Hotel of the week: The Omnia, Zermatt, Switzerland
Switzerland's 21st-century chalet is set just above one of Europe's most famous ski villages.
This “modernist take on mountainside log cabins” sits in the shadow of the great Matterhorn, said Meghan McEwan in Travel + Leisure. Located just above “one of Europe’s most celebrated ski villages,” the hotel is the creation of architect Ali Tayar, who mixed his own modular furniture with pieces by Eero Saarinen and Mies van der Rohe to “add a dash of MoMA-approved flair.” Many rooms feature “cool, egg-shaped fireplaces,” but you can also warm up after a day on the slopes by taking your cocktails “on a sheepskin-covered chair at the outdoor terrace lounge.” the-omnia.com; doubles from $400
