'Star Whackers': The new movie from the 'unhinged' Quaids
Randy and Evi Quaid are notorious for claiming that Hollywood assassins are out to get them. Now they're making a documentary to lay out the case
The image: Hollywood-star-turned-Canadian-based-exile Randy Quaid, and his wife Evi, continue to make headlines. The troubled couple, who claim they thwarted a group of Hollywood assassins, are turning their story into a documentary. Called Star Whackers, the film is set to premiere in Vancouver in late April. It "is a work in progress and highly experimental with nudity, adult language and content throughout," Evi Quaid said in a statement. See a flyer promoting the April screening, below.
The reaction: Now that Charlie Sheen has a live tour and Randy Quaid has a documentary, "the race to become 2011's most famous living meme has officially become a dead heat," says Sean O'Neal at The Onion A.V. Club. Quaid's promo flyer "should make Sheen jealous that he didn't think of wearing a bikini and a cowboy hat and flipping off the camera first." Yeah, it looks like Sheen "isn't the only celebrity who's going to mine his increasingly unhinged paranoia" for entertainment and profit, says Kyle Buchanan in New York. Surely, the Quaids must be "setting themselves up as laughingstocks," says Kate Ward in Entertainment Weekly. "It's hard to imagine any theater-goers would attend the screening due to genuine, unbiased interest, and not to mock the couple." But who knows — "the joke could be on us."
