Dog saves owner from lethal infection

A Michigan man credits his dog with saving his life by chewing off his infected toe. Jerry Douthett, 48, says he passed out drunk and woke to find his toe gone and Kiko, a Jack Russell terrier, “looking at me with a blood mustache.” Douthett’s wife rushed him to the emergency room, where doctors diagnosed him with diabetes and a potentially lethal infection in what was left of his toe. Kiko “kind of chewed off the infected part and stopped at the good bone,” said Douthett. “The dog saved my life.”

Firemen rescue man from cesspit beneath toilet

A Chinese man is recovering after two days spent up to his neck in human waste. The unnamed man had somehow fallen into the cesspit beneath an outdoor public toilet, and might not have survived had a toilet-goer not heard his feeble cries for help. After firemen pulled him from the muck, he was very weak and extremely pungent as well. “As soon as he came out,” said one rescuer, “he rushed to a nearby pond to have a bath.”
