Good Day, Bad Day

Insatiable ears, scripted TV

GOOD DAY FOR: Insatiable ears, as Apple is in negotiations to give iPod and iPhone owners unlimited access to its entire iTunes music library for the lifetime of the device, for a price, the Financial Times reported. An industry executive said buyers would be willing to pay a premium of up to $100 up front, or $7 to $8 a month, for the service. (Reuters)

BAD DAY FOR: Scripted TV, after Fox overtook CBS as the most-watched network, on the strength of its “American Idol,” “Cops,” and “America’s Most Wanted” franchises. CBS had held the top rank for five seasons. “Fox has been harmed the least by the writers’ strike of any of the broadcast networks,” said Horizon Media analyst Brad Adgate. “This could be just temporary.” (Bloomberg)
