GOOD DAY FOR: Staying grounded, after the Federal Aviation Administration fined Southwest Airlines a record $10.2 million for failing to examine older aircrafts for potentially dangerous cracks, and then flying those planes. Southwest flew almost 60,000 flights in the past two years with 46 planes that missed inspections, the FAA said. (AP in Yahoo! Finance)
BAD DAY FOR: Research in Motion, after Apple updated its popular iPhone to make it more business-friendly and thus a real alternative to the BlackBerry. The enhancements include “push” email and compatibility with Microsoft’s Exchange servers. (MarketWatch) RIM responded by saying BlackBerrys will soon play music, through nascent online music service Dipdive. (Bloomberg)
