Tragedy strikes government
The week's news at a glance.
Nairobi, Kenya
Kenya lost several top political and religious leaders to a plane crash this week. Fourteen people, including two deputy ministers and the deputy leader of the opposition, were killed when the plane taking them to a peace negotiation went down near the Ethiopian border. “It is unfortunate that this tragedy has occurred when the peace delegation was on its way for a crucial meeting of bringing harmony among the communities living in the region,” President Mwai Kibaki said. Ethiopians and Kenyans have been accusing one another of cross-border cattle rustling as the region suffers from a drought. The crash was blamed on bad weather.
