Today’s back pages: Man Utd ready to flog Paul Pogba for £150m and West Ham chief David Gold fears fans

United give green light to sell Pogba

“Flog the Pog” screams the back page of The Sun, with the paper reporting that Paul Pogba’s troubled stay at Old Trafford is set to end.

Apparently the French midfielder, sidelined for months with an ankle injury, has “been given the green light” to leave Manchester United and the “fed-up Old Trafford hierarchy are now ready to sell him for £150m”.

The Daily Mirror also runs with the story, claiming that Pogba will be sold in the summer and name-checking Juventus and Real Madrid as both “keen” on snapping up the World Cup winner.

Archer out

The Times, the Mirror and the Daily Mail all report on Jofra Archer’s latest injury blow which has forced the England pace bowler out of the forthcoming Test tour of Sri Lanka.

The 24-year-old has also been withdrawn from the lucrative Indian Premier League season on account of his stress fracture in his right elbow.

Archer sustained the injury in the first Test of England’s recent series against South Africa and is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Times says that Archer - whose fitness and diet “leave a lot to be desired” - should look to team-mate Ben Stokes as an example of what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.

Living in fear

The Daily Express leads on its back page with the news that West Ham’s co-chairman David Gold is living in “terror” because he fears he will be subjected to an attack by angry fans similar to the one directed at Manchester United chief Ed Woodward last month.

An angry mob gathered outside Woodward’s home and chanted that he was “going to die”, and Gold fears he could be next.

“You’ve got a couple of hundred belligerents who want to, metaphorically, burn your house down,” he is quoted as saying.
