Anthony Joshua could make US debut with New York bout against Jarrell Miller

Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that the British boxer’s April date at Wembley Stadium is “unlikely” to happen and that the world champion could now fight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller in New York in June.

In July last year it was announced that WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion Joshua and his team had booked Wembley for two fights - the September bout against Alexander Povetkin and another title clash planned for 13 April 2019.

Hearn has been working on lining up an April opponent for Joshua, with Miller, WBC champion Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte all mentioned.

However, with Wilder and Fury expected to have a rematch following their draw in December, the options now for Joshua could be a fight against Whyte in the UK or against American Miller in June at Madison Square Garden.

Should Joshua fight Miller in New York it would be a US debut for the 29-year-old from Watford. While a rematch against Whyte would be in the UK nearer the summer, but not at Wembley says the BBC.

Speaking to IFL TV, Matchroom Sport boss Hearn said: “The main thing is it looks like 13 April is unlikely.

“I think Dillian thinks, for a fight like that, he’d want a bit more time. So, if we do the Whyte fight, I think we move it to May or June anyway.

“But the Jarrell Miller fight is very close for June at Madison Square Garden.”

New Yorker Miller, 30, has fought 24 times in his career and has recorded 23 wins and one draw. Joshua has 22 wins from his 22 fights, 21 by knockout.
