1. RAF TORNADO JETS CRASH IN SCOTLAND

Two RAF jets have crashed in Scotland. The Tornado GR4s, which have a pilot and navigator, were from RAF Lossiemouth, on the Moray coast. Soon after the crash on Tuesday afternoon one of the aircraft could be seen in the water and the other was classed as "missing". The RNLI said two people had been rescued from Moray Firth.

2. FEMALE F1 DRIVER BADLY HURT IN CRASH

Female Formula One test driver Maria De Villota of the Marussia team has been badly injured during testing at a circuit in Cambridgeshire. The driver, who has over a decade of experience in motorsport, lurched forward into the side of a support truck after her first lap of the day. She is said to have 'life-threatening' injuries.

3. WETTEST JUNE SINCE RECORDS BEGAN

Last month was Britain's wettest June since records began in 1910, according to Met Office provisional figures. The same applied in April while the period from April to June quarter was also the wettest recorded. Play at Wimbledon was disrupted yesterday as a result and according to forecasts will continue to suffer this week.

4. IAN BRADY SUFFERS SEIZURE

Moors murderer Ian Brady has been taken to hospital in Liverpool after suffering a seizure. The 74-year-old, who was jailed in 1966 with his girlfriend Myra Hindley for kidnapping, torturing and killing three children, was rushed from the psychiatric hospital where he is held after becoming 'acutely ill' yesterday.

5. EVIDENCE GROWS FOR 'GOD PARTICLE'

Data identifying the Higgs boson - known as 'the God particle' - detected last year by a US "atom smasher" has become stronger, scientists said yesterday, with an announcement due from researchers at CERN. The Higgs theoretically explains why other particles have mass in the Standard Model theory of the universe.

6. ARMY TOP BRASS ANGERED BY CUTS

Plans to scrap historic battalions have prompted rebellion among the Army's top brass. Brigadier David Paterson, of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, has published a letter he has wrote to Gen Sir Peter Wall, Chief of the General Staff, saying the plans "cannot be presented as the best or most sensible military option".

7. SCIENTOLOGY CHURCH REFUTES SURI CLAIM

A lawyer for the Church of Scientology has refuted claims that Suri, the six-year-old daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, was a candidate to join the Church's elite Sea Organisation, thus prompting her parents' divorce. He said no one under 16 can join, and even then they must have both their parents' consent.

8. MURRAY MAKES LAST EIGHT AT WIMBLEDON

Andy Murray is into the quarter finals of Wimbledon after overcoming his opponent and the British weather. His match against Croation Marin Cilic was delayed overnight with Murray a set and a break of serve up. The match restarted this afternoon and despite another rain delay Murray made quick work of the 16th seed, winning 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

9. BARCLAYS CHIEF BOB DIAMOND RESIGNS

Bob Diamond, chief executive of Barclays, resigned today in the wake of the rate-rigging scandal. He was followed out of the bank this afternoon by chief operating officer Jerry del Missier. Yesterday's resignation of the bank's chairman, Marcus Agius, has been cancelled. He will stay on to lead the search for Diamond's successor.

10. HOT TICKET: 'PERFECT' KISS ME KATE

A revival of Cole Porter's 1948 musical 'Kiss Me Kate' at the Chjichester Festiuval is receiving strong reviews. Directed by Trevor Nunn, known for his love of American musicals, and with choreography by Stephen Mears, the production is "pitche-perfect" says the Guardian. The Telegraph enjoyed "a belter of a night".
