1. TROUBLES: ARMY SHOT UNARMED CIVILIANS

Former soldiers from an undercover unit have told the BBC they frequently carried out extra-judicial killings in Northern Ireland. Ex-members of the Military Reaction Force (MRF) told Panorama they shot men they believed to be IRA killers, whether they were armed or not. The MoD has referred the matter to police.

2. PARIS SHOOTINGS: POLICE NAME DETAINEE

French police have identified the man they arrested yesterday on suspicion of carrying out shootings in the capital as Abdelhakim Dekhar, a man who had just been released after 15 years in jail for his part in a notorious police killing, the Rey-Maupin affair. He was arrested in a car park after a suspected suicide bid.

3. MILIBAND DEFENDS LABOUR OVER CO-OP

Ed Miliband has said his party acted with “complete integrity” when it dealt with the disgraced former Co-op Bank head, Reverend Paul Flowers, who is being investigated by police after being filmed apparently buying cocaine and ecstasy. David Cameron had accused Labour of knowing about Flowers’s past “all along”.

4. BRITS ABROAD: 850 FACE DRUG CHARGES

The FCO has revealed that more than 850 Britons are currently in overseas prisons facing drugs charges as it launches an information campaign to stop others following suit. Some prisoners, including Lindsay Sandiford in Bali, face the death penalty. Others may serve harsh sentences as long as 39 years, says the FCO.

5. LONDON: 24-HOUR TUBE SERVICE IN 2015

The bane of every Londoner's existence – missing the last tube home – is about to become of a thing of the past. London Underground trains are to run all night on weekends from 2015 onwards. The all-night service will start on "core parts of the tube network" and extend to every line over time.

6. MOROCCO METEORITE SHOWS MARS CRUST AGE

Mars is showing its age: analysis of a meteorite found by Bedouin tribesmen in the Sahara last year suggests its crust was formed 4.4 billion years ago. Scientists from the UK and France investigated samples taken from the rock, NWA 7533, and found the crust is as old as the oldest parts of the Earth and the Moon's crusts

7. WALES PHONE BOXES CALENDAR BOMBS

A publisher who scored an unlikely hit in 2012 with Roundabouts of Great Britain, has admitted he may have crossed a “boring bridge too far” with this year’s Telephone Boxes of Wales calendar. The calendar, featuring shots of phone boxes in areas including Monmouth and Llanberis, has yet to sell a single copy.

8. BERLUSCONI PAID FOR SEX WITH 'RUBY'

Former Italian president Silvio Berlusconi paid for sex with dancer Karima El Mahroug (aka 'Ruby the Heart Stealer') by giving her large sums of cash and gifts, a Milan court has said. The details were included in a document released by the court today explaining the seven-year sentence handed to Berlusconi in June.

9. LONDON 'SLAVES' FREED AFTER 30 YEARS

Three "highly traumatised" women have been rescued from a house in south London where they appear to have been held captive for three decades, Scotland Yard has said. The women, a 69-year-old Malaysian, a 57-year-old from Ireland and a 30-year-old British woman, were rescued after one of them contacted a charity.

10. HOT TICKET: BOB DYLAN TOURS UK

Legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan is touring the UK. His shows mix new arrangements of classic early hits such as Tangled Up in Blue and Blowing in the Wind with songs from more recent albums such as Tempest. "Simply mesmerising," says the Daily Telegraph. Royal Albert Hall 26-28 November.
