1. May promises no hard border with Ireland

The Prime Minister has assured First Minister of Northern Ireland Arlene Foster that Brexit will not mean a "hard border" between Ireland and the UK, during a visit to the region today. Two days before the EU referendum, Theresa May insisted that a defended border between the two countries would be "inevitable" if the UK voted to leave.

2. Germany: Syrian refugee bomber backed I.S

A 27-year-old Syrian has blown himself, injuring 15 people, outside a music festival in Bavaria. German authorities say the man had been refused asylum one year ago. It is not clear whether he deliberately exploded the backpack or had intended to plant it and leave the area. A video in which he pledged allegiance to Islamic State was found on his mobile phone.

3. Topshop boss Green blamed for BHS collapse

A damning report by a cross-party group of MPs has blamed clothing tycoon Sir Philip Green and others who "got rich" from BHS for the collapse of the retailer. The MPs say Green's failure to resolve the company's pension deficit was a major factor in the firm's demise and that the businessman represents the "unacceptable face of capitalism".

4. Johnson rebuked for Munich attack comments

Boris Johnson has been criticised for suggesting last Friday's shootings in Munich were carried out by Islamist terrorists before the facts emerged. The Lib Dems said Johnson should "hold his tongue" and his off-the-cuff remarks, made in New York, were more suitable for Have I Got News For You than the Foreign Secretary.

5. More charges for alleged serial killer, Port

Alleged murderer Stephen Port, accused of killing four men in east London has also been charged with poisoning, rape and sexual assault relating to eight other victims. The 41-year-old from Barking is said to have met the murder victims on the internet between June 2014 and September 2015, and lured them to his flat where he poisoned them. Port denied the 29 charges at the Old Bailey.

6. US Democratic chairwoman resigns over emails

The head of the US Democratic Party has been forced to resign after a series of leaked emails appeared to suggest party insiders tried to stop Bernie Sanders from beating Hillary Clinton. Debbie Wasserman Schultz stepped down on the eve of the party's convention, at which Clinton will be nominated as Democratic presidential candidate.

7. Chris Froome wins third Tour de France

British cyclist Chris Froome has won his third Tour de France. Greeted by his wife and son after the largely ceremonial 21st stage of the race in Paris yesterday, the 31-year-old racer, wearing the famous yellow jersey, paid his respects to the people killed in the Nice terror attack on Bastille Day, saying it had overshadowed the race.

8. Harry regrets not speaking about Diana's death

Prince Harry has said he regrets not speaking earlier about the death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who was killed in a car crash when he was 12. Hosting an event for a mental health charity yesterday, the Prince told footballer Rio Ferdinand that he "really regrets" not talking about how the death had affected him until three years ago.

9. Two people shot dead at Florida night club

Two people have been shot dead at a nightclub in Florida which had been hosting a party for teenagers. The attack happened just after mighnight on Monday morning at Club Blu in the city of Fort Myers. As many as 16 other people were injured in the incident, which unfolded in the club's car park. Police said three people had been arrested.

10. Briefing: It's the end of the world, again

Just when you thought 2016 couldn't get any gloomier, a YouTube

channel has forecast the world is going to end on Friday. The End Time

Prophecies channel says a global apocalypse will wipe out the entire

population on 29 July, with a second coming of Jesus Christ and a

reversal of the Earth's magnetic poles. The doom-laden video offers

Bible verses, some dubious science and curious CGI graphics to argue

its point.
