Apple redesigns its Mac Pro and Pro displays
Tech giant 'rethinking' its flagship desktop and will 'keep it fresh' with regular updates, says marketing chief
Apple is redeveloping its flagship Mac Pro desktop computer together with a new external monitor to replace the ageing Thunderbolt display.
Speaking to TechCrunch in Cupertino, marketing chief Phil Schiller said the company is "in the process of what we call completely rethinking the Mac Pro".
They were "going to come out with something great to replace it", he added.

"We have a team working hard on it right now and we want to architect it so that we can keep it fresh with regular improvements and we're committed to making it our highest-end, high-throughput desktop system, designed for our demanding pro customers".
Schiller also announced that Apple is working on a "Pro display", which is expected to replace the six-year-old Thunderbolt.
"We think it's really important to create something great for our Pro customers who want a Mac Pro modular system", he said. The final product will "take longer than this year to do", however.
While the new Mac Pro won't be reach the market this year, Apple has updated its current range of high-end desktops and dropped the price of the entry-level model, MacRumors reports.

The previous four-core base-model has been upped to a six-core processor, while its predecessor's 12GB RAM is now 16GB.
The updated Mac Pro can be ordered from Apple for £2,999, which is around £700 cheaper than the equivalent previous model.
