Harry Kane is set to become the most expensive British player in world football, claims The Sun, with the paper saying Real Madrid are ready to make Spurs a £177million offer for their goal machine.

Kane, who has already scored 11 goals for Spurs this season, and will be looking to find the net for England this evening in their World Cup qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley, has become one of the Continent’s hottest properties.

His shooting skills have caught the eye of the Spanish giants who intend to make Tottenham an offer they can’t refuse.

Quoting the Spanish source Don Balon, the Sun says that Real have “turned their attentions to the England star” as they look to beef up their attack for next season.

With Gareth Bale a shadow of the player he was once, and Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo not getting any younger, the 24-year-old Kane is an attractive proposition for Real.

While Tottenham have so far laughed off suggestions they would ever sell Kane, the prospect of banking such an astronomical sum may be tough to turn down for chairman Daniel Levy, given the cost of the club’s renovation of White Hart Lane this year.

The Sun claims that Levy would be prepared to consider a sale but only if he received “the very best price”. This would mean Real handing over not much less than the world record £198m it cost PSG to sign Neymar in the summer.

Kane will captain England this evening. At the pre-match press conference he was asked if he could envisage leaving Tottenham.

“I would never say ‘no’ or ‘yes’,” he replied. “You’d not rule out anything. It’s not something I definitely want to do, but you never rule anything out. I’m very happy here [at Spurs], but we’ll see what happens.”

According to the Daily Telegraph, it’s the first time that Kane hasn’t rejected outright the idea of leaving the club, prompting the paper to speculate that “England’s leading player may have ambitions beyond White Hart Lane”.
