F1 Monaco GP: Ricciardo on pole, race start time, TV details and betting odds

Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo’s superb weekend continued after he secured pole position for the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.

Australian Ricciardo has impressed on the Monte Carlo street circuit with the quickest times in all three practice sessions. And he was again setting the pace in all three of Saturday’s qualifying segments.

Red Bull, however, had a setback after Max Verstappen crashed in practice three and failed to set a qualifying time. F1.com says that he will now race “at the stewards’ discretion” and will start the Monaco GP tomorrow from the back of the grid.

Ricciardo is joined at the front of the grid by Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who finished second quickest in qualifying. World champion Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes was third.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said: “Daniel’s been on it all weekend, he’s been quickest in every session, every qualifying piece and he’s delivered two great laps which were capable of pole. He’s done an amazing job.

“It feels a little bittersweet. We’re delighted with pole but we should have had two cars up there. It’s frustrating with such a fast car not to have both cars on the front row of the grid.

“Max’s car was fired up and then we saw an oil leak in the gearbox which had been hidden and that was it. They did their best to get the gearbox replaced, which would have been a five-place penalty, but I have to say both car crews did everything that they could to make it happen. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be.”

The F1 Monaco Grand Prix starts on Sunday at 2.10pm (UK time).
