F1: Ferrari will mark Michael Schumacher’s 50th birthday with museum exhibition

Ferrari will launch a new museum exhibition next year to mark the 50th birthday of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher.

The German won five successive F1 titles with the Italian team from 2000 to 2004 and the new exhibition will open on his birthday on 3 January 2019.

Five years ago Schumacher suffered a life-changing skiing accident when on 29 December 2013 he fell and hit his head on a rock. He was wearing a ski helmet but suffered a serious head injury.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Schumacher is no longer bed-ridden but receives extensive nursing and therapy care at his home in Switzerland.

After winning two world championships with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 Schumacher moved to Ferrari and would go on to become F1’s most successful driver with a record seven world titles. He retired from F1 in 2012 winning 91 grands prix and achieving 155 podiums during his illustrious career.

The Ferrari Museum in Maranello will host the “Michael 50” exhibition for a few months and it will honour the “most successful Ferrarista in history”. The exhibition will be held in collaboration with the Keep Fighting Foundation, a non-profit initiative inspired by Schumacher.

In a statement Ferrari said: “It is intended both as a celebration and a mark of gratitude to the most successful Prancing Horse driver ever. Schumacher has a special place in Ferrari’s history, which has been marked by his many records.

“Between 1996 and 2006 the German champion won five consecutive drivers’ titles, from 2000 to 2004, and made a major contribution to the Scuderia’s haul of six manufacturers’ titles over those years.

“The museum’s rooms will look back over the memorable seasons that the seven-time world champion gifted to all Ferraristi, and that created a legend now bigger than ever in the hearts of all fans.”
