Game of Thrones: Twitter reacts to Stormborn

Stormborn, the second episode of Game of Thrones' seventh season, provoked a storm of response on social media as fans digested the latest drama in Westeros and made their own predictions for the future.

One seemingly throwaway line in particular got Twitter twittering. Upon hearing Archmaester Marwyn's unimaginative title for his planned history of Westeros, Samwell Tarly suggested "something a bit more poetic".

Given that the George RR Martin novels on which the show is based all have very poetic titles - beginning with A Song of Fire and Ice - fans wondered if Samwell will ultimately be revealed as the in-universe author of the chronicles.

GoT superfans already suspected that Samwell might have a larger role in the show's endgame than his mild-mannered demeanour would suggest, says The Independent. When Samwell entered the library of the Citadel in season six, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that he was standing directly beneath an astrolobe identical to the one seen in the show's title sequence.

In what Elle calls "one of the grossest scenes ever in Game of Thrones," Samwell Tarly attempted to treat Jorah Marmont's grayscale, a mysterious disease turning his skin into stony scales.

Tweeters were quick to chime in with sympathy for Jorah's predicament, and even suggest their own remedies for silkier skin:

Even more nauseatingly, the next scene cut straight to a shot of an oozing pie. It was all too much for some:

Elsewhere, Arya's long-lost companion Nymeria turned up in time to save her from a direwolf attack, but ultimately ignored Arya's pleas to come back to her and headed off with her new pack instead - a "ghosting" that felt all too familiar to sensitive millennials.
