BMW 3 Series 330e hybrid: electric range, specs, price and UK release
The first plug-in hybrid of new generation saloon has landed
BMW has launched the first electrified model in its new 3 Series line-up - the 330e plug-in hybrid.
The new EV has an electric range of 37 miles, which is significantly more than that of its two-year-old predecessor, at 25 miles.
Paired with the hybrid’s 12kWh battery system is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an eight-speed gearbox. This system produces a “not too shabby” power output of 250bhp and 310lb-ft of torque, says Top Gear.

BMW has also introduced a new “XtraBoost” function that kicks in when sport mode is enabled, using the battery system to provide extra performance to the engine.
With sport mode active, the 330e does 0-62mph in just six seconds and can go on to a top speed of 143mph. Even on battery energy alone, drivers can cruise a speeds of up to 68mph.
The 330e is frugal, too. Auto Express says the hybrid has a fuel economy of 138mpg, while CO2 emission figures come in at 39g/km.
The German car maker has extended the 330e’s length by 15mm over that of a conventionally powered 3 Series, to make space for the hybrid gadgetry, Autocar reports.
However, this system still comes at the cost of boot space, which shrinks to 375 litres, compared with 480 litres in standard models.
All the same, given the 330e’s impressive mileage gains and great fuel economy, many customers may feel that’s a price worth paying.
Orders for the 330e open in July, with prices expected to start from around £40,000.
