Missing cat turns up ten years on
And other stories from the stranger side of life
A pet cat that had been lost for a decade has been reunited with his owner after he was found 260 miles away from home, The Times reported. Chubbs, a 15-year-old white and grey tabby, disappeared from his home in Dorset in 2012 but has now been found wandering the streets in Ashton-in-Makerfield in Greater Manchester. His owner Donna Gallagher, 40, said: “I knew in my heart that he was still alive, I just knew he was out there somewhere.”
Tooth analysis brings Black Death breakthrough
Researchers believe they have discovered the origins of the Black Death, The Guardian reported. An international team has linked a spike in deaths at cemeteries in Kyrgyzstan in the 1300s to the start of the plague pandemic. The researchers analysed ancient DNA samples from the teeth of skeletons in cemeteries near Lake Issyk Kul. Tens of millions of people died when bubonic plague tore across the continents, probably by spreading along trade routes.
Man suspends car to stop it being stolen
An Australian man used a forklift to suspend his car, and a woman inside who was allegedly trying to steal it, in the air. The woman was about to make her getaway when Brendan Mills and his family discovered her. Mills, who works with cars, used a forklift to raise the vehicle until police arrived. “You had this immense amount of adrenaline running through the system, lots of thoughts cross your mind... I just went, ‘Well, there’s a forklift sitting there – why not?’” he told TV show Sunrise.
