More than 11,000 vehicles were trapped in a traffic jam in China after heavy fog closed down a ferry service across the Qiongzhou Strait. An estimated 100,000 people were forced to spend the night in cars and buses before ferries resumed service the following morning.

Robbery foiled after suspect shoots himself

Four people from New Jersey have been charged with a string of offences after a bungled robbery in a car park. Police say 19-year-old Branden Wentz struck the intended victim in the head with a pistol, causing the firearm to discharge, shooting Wentz through the hand.
