Trippier to Spain

Kieran Trippier is edging closer to Atletico Madrid, says Sky Sports and the Tottenham defender is shortly due to undergo a medical with the Spanish outfit.

Several clubs have been chasing the seasoned international, with Napoli, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United all namechecked as suitors. But Sky Sports says Atletico Madrid are confident that they can seal a deal for the 28-year-old Trippier, and the Spurs right-back will fly to Spain on Wednesday.

There he will undergo a medical with the Liga club and according to Sky to sweeten the deal, Tottenham “have been offered the chance to sign Atletico Madrid striker Angel Correa”.The Argentina international is well known to Spurs’ boss Mauricio Pochettino and it could seal a deal that, acorrding to The Times will net Tottenham £20m.

Alves to Arsenal

Dani Alves is prepared to take a pay cut to sign for Arsenal, claims The Sun, but the veteran defender will hardly be on his uppers at the Emirates as he “still wants £200k-a-week wages”.

The 36-year-old is a free agent after his deal with Paris Saint-Germain expired last month, and initial rumours linked the Brazilian blocker with Man City and Tottenham. But the Sun says Arsenal have emerged as the front-runners to sign Alves because “a reunion with Unai Emery appeals most to the Samba star”.

The pair worked together at PSG and Emery is apparently keen to bring Alves’ experience to the Emirates, particularly with the future of Laurent Koscielny up in the air. However, says the Sun, Alves’ wage demands “could prove a stumbling block to Arsenal” despite his willigness to take a pay cut. He earned a whopping £230k-a-week at PSG and his insistence on £200k is still a huge sum for a club of Arsenal’s modest financial standing.

Koscielny latest

As for Laurent Koscielny, Unai Emery has spoken publicly for the first time about the Frenchman’s mutinous behaviour during Arsenal’s pre-season tour to the USA. Koscielny declined to join the club for the jolly across The Pond, with allegations that he is trying to force a move to France with one of Bordeaux, Lyon or Rennes. TalkSport reports that when Emery was asked about the situation, he replied: “We wanted him to come with us on this tour but he decided to stay. Now it is a matter for the club and for the player.”

Asked whether Koscielny had a future with the Gunners, the Spaniard said: “He has one year left on his contract...now it’s one matter for him and the club. The club and him need to speak, they are speaking about his situation. I cannot say more than that.”

Arsenal win Ceballos tussle

Arsenal have won the race to sign unsettled Real Madrid star Dani Ceballos, says the Daily Star, with the paper reporting that the 22-year-old has rejected overtures from Spurs to sign for their north London neighbours. The Spanish press claim that Ceballos has been told he can leave the Bernabeu after struggling for game time in recent seasons.

Spanish publication AS says that Ceballos chose the Gunners “based on the interest shown by Gunners boss Unai Emery”, and the Arsenal boss will tie-up a season-long loan for Ceballos in the coming days.

Leicester play hardball

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed the club have been fending off interest in Harry Maguire from both Manchester United and Manchester City this summer and knocked back two bids from Utd for their England central defender, according to the [6] Daily Mirror. Speaking after a pre-season loosener against Scunthorpe, Rodgers said that the two Manchester clubs were interested in Maguire but neither had yet matched his £90m price tag.

“I’m relaxed about it all,” explained Rodgers. “We understand the situation from all points of view because United and City are big clubs. But unless they meet our valuation he won’t be sold and it’s as simple as that.”

United set for Fernandes

Manchester United will make a concrete bid for Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes over the next three weeks, as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to reshape his midfield. The move is not dependent on Paul Pogba leaving Old Trafford, with Solskjaer eager to enhance his squad. There is a confidence the deal will get done, but United will have to pay at least £50m. Inter want Lukaku deal

Inter Milan are prepared to pay £75m for Romelu Lukaku - but only if the deal including bonus payments. United are not prepared to drop their valuation of the 26-year-old, while the Italian outfit are only in a position to come up with a guaranteed £60m over three years, with the further £15m dependent on how successful Lukaku is at the San Siro. West Ham to sign Haller

West Ham are expected to complete the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt star Sebastien Haller today for £45m, but are still concerned they could be gazumped. Haller has been on Manchester United’s radar, and his representatives also held talks with Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund this summer. But no other club have yet come close to matching West Ham’s offer for the 25-year-old. (Daily Star)
