Jon Stewart explains why he didn't end up hosting Meet the Press

Jon Stewart confirms in an interview with Rolling Stone that NBC executives approached him about hosting Meet the Press, though he says it was more of an exploratory meeting and that he probably would not have been a good fit for the show anyway.

"My guess is they were casting as wide and as weird a net as they could," Stewart says, adding that while the show would have pulled back on hard news in favor of more entertainment under his hypothetical stewardship, "I don't necessarily think that's the best direction for it."
