White House vending machines haven't joined Michelle Obama's war on obesity
Michelle Obama apparently keeps her friends close and her enemies closer: While the first lady's anti-obesity campaign has banned public schools from selling unhealthy snacks to students during school hours, high-calorie treats are available in the White House's own vending machines.
Roll Call's Steven Dennis snapped a picture this week of 590-calorie "Jumbo Honeybuns" for sale in the White House press break room, along with other fatty items like cookies and doughnuts:
This isn't the first time Michelle Obama has been criticized for a "do as I say, not as I do" attitude toward healthy eating. In 2011, she ordered a 1,700-calorie meal at Shake Shack, and earlier this year she admitted her favorite foods are pizza and French fries. By one calculation, the first lady presided over a state dinner in February that clocked in at 2,500 calories per person.
