The Ministry of Health announced Friday that a man who was infected with Ebola has traveled to Senegal, the first recorded case in the country.
The outbreak, which has already affected four other West African countries, has killed more than 1,500 people and infected at least 3,000. The man in Senegal is a university student in Guinea who sought treatment at a hospital in Dakar, Senegal, according to The Associated Press. He was infected while in contact with Ebola patients in Guinea.
Authorities told AP that the young man is "one who fled" from Guinea, as its border with Senegal has been closed. AP also notes that Ebola's arrival in Senegal "underscores that the outbreak is not under control" — a particularly alarming comment, considering Dakar is a major tourist spot and transportation hub.
