Suzi LeVine has a lot to celebrate. Not only was she sworn in as the new American ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, but she became the first U.S. ambassador to take an oath on an e-reader. Vice President Joe Biden oversaw the technological feat Friday.
The device was opened to the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, the act that allowed women to vote. The decidedly high-tech ceremony meshes well with LeVine's background, since she was a former executive at Microsoft — even if the tablet doesn't appear to be a Surface.
