Jon Stewart was prepared to be bored by Obama's sixth State of the Union address on Tuesday night. But on Wednesday night's Daily Show, he found a silver lining in the various ways Republicans responded to Obama's big piece of political theater. There was the remaining seated during applause lines about America's positive economic news, and the clapping when Obama noted he isn't running again — and yes, Stewart appreciated Obama's riposte:
But Stewart also dedicated a whole segment to critiquing the various Republican and Tea Party video responses to Obama's speech, starting with the subdued official GOP response from Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst. ("Is that you, Siri?") Ernst didn't win this years "Implody" — Stewart's new award for "outstanding achievement in unforced response-speech errors" — but she had some tough competition from Rep. Curt Clawson (Florida) and Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The winner won't shock you. —Peter Weber
