Apple plans on building an $850 million solar farm in Monterey County that will power its operations in California, the company's chief executive Timothy Cook said on Tuesday.

"We know at Apple that climate change is real," Cook said during an investors' conference. "The time for talk is past. The time for action is now." The farm will provide renewable energy to power the Cupertino campus, retail stores in California, and a data center in Fremont, The New York Times reports. Apple is working on the project with First Solar, a solar energy equipment supplier, and is expected to be finished by the end of next year.
