A Hollywood exec is hoping to trade wheat and ore for straight cash.
Producer Gail Katz picked up the film and TV rights to the award-winning German board game Settlers of Catan, in which players acquire and swap resources as they colonize a fictional island. Though the game is immensely popular, as far as board games go, it has no defined characters or narrative, which could make a screen adaptation tricky.
"The island of Catan is a vivid, visual, exciting and timeless world with classic themes and moral challenges that resonate today," Katz said, adding that there is "tremendous opportunity" to craft a narrative from the pieces.
