As The X-Files once showed us, sometimes whispered rumors from dubious sources turn out to be true after all. Following months of vague teasing, Fox has confirmed that the cult sci-fi The X-Files will return for a 6-episode limited series. Original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reprise the roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, and series creator Chris Carter will return to run the series.
"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," said Carter in a statement. "The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories."
After nine season, The X-Files went off the air in 2002. Duchovny and Anderson last played Mulder and Scully in the 2008 feature film The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The new series is expected to begin production this summer.
