The gunman who opened fire on the Dallas police headquarters from an armored van early Saturday morning is believed to be dead, The Washington Post reports. Authorities say a SWAT sniper shot the gunman, who identified himself as James Boulware, around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police are not approaching the van until they can confirm it's not rigged with explosives, but they sent a bomb tech robot with a camera to see if the gunman was alive. The police department tweeted they now believe he has died.

It was previously believed there could be as many as four suspects in the shooting, but police now say it was likely a lone gunman who shot from different locations.
