For the first time since 1917, Converse's iconic Chuck Taylor All Star sneaker is getting a new look — and will be more comfortable to boot.
The Chuck Taylor All Star II has more changes on the inside than outside. Taking some cues from Nike (which bought Converse in 2003), the new shoe has a foam-padded collar, perforated micro-suede liner for increased breathability, and a nonslip gusseted tongue, the Los Angeles Times reports. The eyelets are a monochrome matte, and the All Star logo patches are embroidered on the premium canvas, not printed.
The new All Star II will be released July 28 in black, white, red, and blue. Prices are being bumped up by about $20 — $70 for the low-top style, $75 for the high-top. Fans of the original Chuck Taylor, don't worry; Converse will continue to sell the classic style, too.
