The only joy in Flushing Meadows, New York, on Sunday night was in the Kansas City dugout and among Royals fans at Citi Field. New York Mets ace Matt Harvey pitched eight shutout innings against the Royals in a must-win Game 5 of the 2015 World Series, but Kansas City tied up the score with two runs in the ninth, then scored another five in the 12th inning to win their first World Series championship since 1985, and their second in franchise history. The Mets scored their two runs in the first and sixth inning off Edinson Volquez, pitching for the first time since returning from his father's funeral.
The Royals also played in the World Series last year, losing to the San Francisco Giants in seven games. They dominated the Mets this year, winning the series, 4-1. The Mets were making their first World Series bid since 2000, and haven't won since 1986.
