The EPA just listed more car models allegedly linked to the Volkswagen emissions scandal

The Environmental Protection Agency issued a second Clean Air Act violation notice to Volkswagen on Monday, alleging the auto giant evaded emissions standards in more car models than previously thought, The Los Angeles Times reports. In September, Volkswagen admitted to using so-called defeat device software in 11 million diesel cars sold worldwide between 2009 and 2015 after the EPA first alleged they violated pollution regulations.
The EPA has claimed the software used allows cars to emit up to nine times as much nitrogen oxide when driven, compared to when they're tested.
About 10,000 vehicles allegedly in violation include the following diesel engines, according to The Associated Press: the 2014 VW Touareg; the 2015 Porsche Cayenne; and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5. The first time around, EPA cited Golf, Passat, Jetta, and Beetle diesel engines.

The Volkswagen CEO resigned amid the scandal, and the company has since attributed the use of the software to a handful of engineers. The now-broadened investigation into the practice is still ongoing, an EPA official said.
