5-year-old saves blind grandmother from house fire

A 5-year-old put her pre-K lessons to good use when she saved her blind grandmother from their burning home in Kenner, Louisiana, Wednesday morning. When their stove caught fire, setting off the smoke alarm, Cloe Woods reportedly leapt out of bed and ran to her grandmother's bedroom to lead her out of the house.
"She told my mom to hold her shoulder and that they had to get out of the house," Woods' mother Shone Arceneaux said. Woods was also sure to get the family dog out of the house.
Woods' pre-K class had taken a field trip to the local Kenner Fire Department in October, where the kids learned about getting out of the house immediately if there was a fire. "She was running and telling the neighbors to call 911," Arceneaux said, recounting the scene she returned home to after she'd dropped her older children off at their carpool stop nearby.

Kenner Fire Department Chief John Hellmers applauded Woods for her efforts. "She saved her grandmother's life and saved her own life," Hellmers said.
