Mitt Romney curious as to why Donald Trump 'dodges and delays' when it comes to taxes
Mitt Romney is questioning why Donald Trump hasn't released his tax information, saying he thinks Trump is avoiding it because there's a "bombshell in there."
The former Republican presidential nominee told Fox News' Neil Cavuto on Wednesday that "every time" Trump is asked about his taxes "he dodges and delays." Romney speculated that Trump might not have as many billions as he's claimed, or people will have an issue with what he paid in taxes. "When people decide they don't want to give you their taxes, it's usually because there's something they don't want you to see," he said.
Romney said the whole tax thing is a "sensitive" topic for him, stemming from his 2012 run. Then-Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Romney hadn't paid taxes in a decade, and Romney ended up releasing his 2011 tax returns. "We're going to select our nominee — we really ought to see from all three of these fellows what their taxes look like to see if there is an issue there," Romney said on Wednesday. Trump did not take kindly to this tax talk, tweeting that Romney "totally blew an election that should have been won" and was "playing tough guy." Trump also spilled that after Romney asked him for an endorsement in 2012, "he was so awkward and goofy that we all should have known he could not win!"
